Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Lahore was established in 1954 to conduct matric and intermediate exams in schools and colleges in Punjab. It was the first education board, which was established to conduct the exams and before this, Punjab University was conducted the exams of SSC and HSSC. Then various other education boards were set up in other cities. Now BISE Lahore conducts the exams of SSC and HSSC in the Lahore schools and colleges located in Lahore, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib and Kasur. Lahore Board conducts the exams in science and arts subjects in 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th classes. At the Intermediate level, the subjects are divided into Pre-Engineering, Pre-Medical, Commerce, Computer Science, General Sciences, Arts. The main building of BISE Lahore Board is located at Mozang Road.

Usually, Lahore Board conducts the exams of matric class during the month of March for which BISE Lahore issues the matric date sheet one month in advance in the month of February. Lahore Board starts admission process three or four months before the start of the exams enabling the eligible students to send their admission forms and appear in the annual exams of SSC class. It is schedule of Lahore board to announce the result of the matric class after three months. Normally, matric roll number slips of the students are sent along with the date sheet. Similarly, Lahore Board conducts the exams of FA/FSc class during the month of April and the inter date sheet of the annual exams of 11th and 12th class is sent in March.
